Periodic electrical inspection & testing
All non-domestic electrical installations should be subject to a regular programmed of testing and inspection to comply with current legislation. You must ensure that all necessary precautions are being taken to reduce the risk of injury or death through electrical failure Periodic inspection and testing should be considered if:

  • It required by a governing body or particular directive (ie Licensing
    authorities, insurance companies, Landlords etc)
    • Our specialists are qualified to City & Guilds 1 & 2, City & Guilds 2377,
2391 inspection & testing standard and are 17th Edition upgraded.

There are many good reasons for adopting periodic testing. You may need to inspect and test to comply with the IEE Wiring Regulations 17th Edition (see below). Or if you have recently acquired ownership or tenancy of business / workplace premises you may wish to ensure the installation is safe. If you suspect there is a fault or risk of failure, you must take steps
to inspect the affected circuits urgently.

About the recent amendments to the BS7671: 2008
17th Edition update

  • The 17th edition of BS7671:2008 wiring regulations were first published in January 2008.
  • From 1st July 2008 any installation that is tested, designed or constructed will have to comply with the 17th Edition regulatory changes.
  • The amendments bring the UK in line with European standards and the
additional requirements are quite wide ranging. This will undoubtedly lead
to additional remedial repairs being required to bring installations up to
scratch and the tests themselves will take far longer than was previously
    the case.
  • Any engineers carrying out fixed installation testing should have the
    upgraded qualification.

Maximum periods allowed between Periodic Inspections:

  • Commercial Installations - 5 years.
  • Industrial Installations - 3 years.
  • Buildings open to the public - 1 year.
  • External Installations - 3 years. -
  • Caravan Parks - 1 year.
  • Fire Alarms - 1 year.
  • Short Term Installations - 3 months.
  • Site Installations - 3 months.
